Composite Profile Benefits and Application Areas

Engineering Advantages

Because continuous glass rovings are aligned within the resin during pultrusion, GFRP profiles achieve very high mechanical strength for their weight. Compared with metal sections the key differences are:

  • Corrosion and chemical resistance: keeps structural integrity in acid, alkali, chloride and salt-water environments; no galvanising or paint required.
  • Low weight: significantly lighter than steel of similar capacity; reduces crane needs and speeds up installation.
  • Electrical insulation: profiles do not conduct electricity — safe around substations, power plants and railways.
  • Low thermal conductivity: no thermal bridging between hot and cold zones.
  • Dimensional stability and UV resistance: no warping, rotting or colour loss outdoors.
  • Site friendly: cut and drilled with standard tools; no welding.

Application Areas

GFRP profiles are used together with our FRP gratings and covers or as stand-alone structures in:

  • Waste and drinking water treatment plants: platforms, handrails and channel structures.
  • Chemical and process plants: load-bearing frames and ladders in acidic/alkaline atmospheres.
  • Energy and infrastructure: substations, cable trays, insulation elements.
  • Cooling towers: internal structural members exposed to constant moisture.
  • Marine and marinas: pier handrails, ladders and claddings.
  • Food facilities: hygienic, rust-free platforms and supports.
  • Architecture: facades, louvres, canopies and urban furniture.

Profile selection is engineered by our team according to span, load class and chemical exposure. Our chemical resistance chart guides material choice.
